Official Announcement of Kathmandu International Trail Marathon (KITM) 2026
The Kathmandu International Trail Marathon (KITM) has been officially announced, marking a significant milestone in Nepal’s trail running scene. The event aims to bring together runners from across the world to experience the unique blend of culture, nature, and endurance that Kathmandu Valley offers.Organized with the support of the Trail Association of Nepal (TAAN), KITM is designed to showcase the valley’s iconic heritage sites, forest trails, and scenic ridgelines. The marathon will feature multiple race categories, including the challenging 45 km Ultra Trail Marathon and the accessible 5 km Fun Race, ensuring participation opportunities for both experienced athletes and beginners.The 45 km ultra route will take runners from Swayambhu through Nagarjun and Shivapuri trails, passing key locations such as Jamacho, Mudkhu Bhanjyang, Tarkeshwor, and Nagi Gumba before finishing at Bouddhanath. This course combines technical terrain with breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and Himalayas.Meanwhile, the 5 km Fun Race will provide a more inclusive experience, starting at Pashupatinath and finishing at Bouddhanath, allowing participants to enjoy a vibrant and culturally rich run through the city.The announcement of KITM reflects a growing interest in trail running and outdoor sports in Nepal. With strong organizational support, safety planning, and international participation expected, the event is set to become a landmark race in the region.

TAAN Appoints Race Director for KITM 2026
The Trail Association of Nepal (TAAN) has officially appointed a Race Director for the upcoming Kathmandu International Trail Marathon (KITM) 2026, marking an important step in the preparation for one of Nepal’s most anticipated trail running events.The appointment reflects TAAN’s commitment to delivering a professionally managed race that meets international standards while showcasing the unique cultural and natural landscapes of Kathmandu Valley. The Race Director will be responsible for overseeing course planning, safety protocols, logistics coordination, and overall race execution.KITM 2026 aims to bring together local and international runners to experience a one-of-a-kind trail marathon that connects heritage sites such as Swayambhu and Bouddhanath through forest trails, ridgelines, and scenic viewpoints.
