Terms & Policies

Please read the following rules and regulations carefully. These policies ensure the safety, fairness, and enjoyment of the Kathmandu International Trail Marathon for all participants.

1. General Rules

Participants must be 18 years or older on race day to compete in the marathon distance. The 10K and 5K fun runs are open to participants aged 12 and above with parental consent.

  • Race Bibs: Bibs must be worn on the front of the body and visible at all times. They contain timing chips and are non-transferable.
  • Checkpoints: Runners must pass through all timing mats and checkpoints. Missing a checkpoint will result in disqualification.
  • Cut-off Times: Strict cut-off times are enforced at key aid stations for safety. Runners failing to meet these times will be transported to the finish line.

Mandatory Gear

All runners must carry a hydration pack (min 1.5L), a whistle, a thermal blanket, and a waterproof jacket. Spot checks will occur during the race.

2. Refund & Transfer Policy

We understand that plans change. Our refund policy is designed to be fair while covering the upfront costs of organizing an international event in a remote location.

Pregnancy deferral: We offer a 100% deferral valid for 2 years for participants who become pregnant after registering. Please contact support with documentation.

3. Safety Protocols

The KITM course traverses high-altitude terrain, reaching elevations of up to 2,700m. Weather conditions can change rapidly. Your safety is our priority, but personal responsibility is paramount.

Medical Clearance

A signed medical certificate dated within 3 months of race day is required at bib collection.

Insurance

Helicopter evacuation insurance is mandatory for all international runners.

4. Liability Waiver

I acknowledge that running a trail marathon is an extreme test of a person's physical and mental limits and carries with it the potential for death, serious injury, and property loss. I hereby assume the risks of participating in this event.

I certify that I am physically fit, have sufficiently trained for participation in this event, and have not been advised otherwise by a qualified medical person.

I acknowledge that this Accident Waiver and Release of Liability form will be used by the event holders, sponsors, and organizers of the activity in which I may participate, and that it will govern my actions and responsibilities at said activity.

In consideration of my application and permitting me to participate in this event, I hereby take action for myself, my executors, administrators, heirs, next of kin, successors, and assigns as follows:

(A) I WAIVE, RELEASE, AND DISCHARGE from any and all liability, including but not limited to, liability arising from the negligence or fault of the entities or persons released, for my death, disability, personal injury, property damage, property theft, or actions of any kind which may hereafter occur to me including my traveling to and from this activity.

(B) I INDEMNIFY, HOLD HARMLESS, AND PROMISE NOT TO SUE the entities or persons mentioned in this paragraph from any and all liabilities or claims made as a result of participation in this activity, whether caused by the negligence of release or otherwise.

5. Code of Conduct

KITM is committed to environmental stewardship. We operate under a strict Leave No Trace policy.

Zero Waste Policy

Littering on the course is grounds for immediate disqualification. Please carry all trash to the next aid station.

Respect for Locals

The trail passes through active villages. Please yield to locals and livestock, and dress modestly when not racing.
